How Can You Make Flossing a Bit More Fun for Kids?

Any parent can attest to the fact that when kids see something as a 'dreaded chore' it can be nearly impossible to get them to do it.
Today we're going to look at establishing good oral health habits early and making them a little more fun instead of something that 'has' to be done every day.
Making Oral Health Care Fun
One of the things that we really encourage when we talk to parents is that we start oral care early in life. Habits that are started young stay with a person as they grow and mature, and good oral health is an investment in your child and their future. Beginning from birth, wipe down your infant's gums after each feeding with a damp wash cloth. As your child grows, introduce a toddler tooth brush and as soon as your child has two teeth that touch, it is time to start flossing.
There are many different fun flossing devices available over the counter at your local store. Animal shapes, different and fun colored flossers and even flavored ones can make flossing a little more fun. Take your time when teaching your child how to floss, be careful not to go too deep into the gumline. This can cause unnecessary pain and may cause your child to fear flossing.
Another great way to bring a little fun into the daily routine of flossing and brushing is to make a game out of it. Put on some fun music that you save for this time, get some flavored toothpaste and a fun toothbrush and brush with your child. Taking care of your oral health together is a great way to make the chore of brushing and flossing a little more fun.
