Sedation Dentistry

Dental anxiety is a common experience, especially in children. At Kids First, we want every child to feel comfortable receiving the care they need. Sedation dentistry helps people of all ages relax and have a positive experience while receiving routine dental exams, orthodontic exams, and other dental treatments.

The Wand® also allows our doctors to complete injections that don’t numb the lips or facial muscles. Whether needles and injections make your child nervous or not, The Wand® helps your child’s doctor at Kids First make sure your child is comfortable throughout their entire dental procedure.

Nitrous Oxide

If your child is anxious, has special needs or just needs extra help staying calm and comfortable, our doctors may recommend the use of nitrous oxide. Also known as laughing gas, nitrous oxide is a completely safe way to help children receive the dental care they need without anxiety or fear.

Once the dental treatment is over the gas will be completely out of their system in only a few minutes. Nitrous oxide is widely considered to be low risk and at Kids First, our goal is to always care for your child’s dental health in the safest way possible.

IV Sedation

This type of sedation dentistry is used at Kids First as an option for patients with moderate to high levels of dental anxiety. Your child will receive a sedation medicine directly through a small IV catheter.

General Anesthesia

Used primarily in oral surgery, this sedation dentistry option will put your child completely under anesthesia, ensuring they are entirely unaware of the procedure. This type of sedation is typically used if your child has to have extensive oral surgery or their wisdom teeth removed.
